About Me

A few years back, I hit this really low point with my depression that I just couldn’t shake. I’d dealt with mental health stuff before, but this was different; everything felt impossible, even getting out of bed. I was already in therapy, which helped somewhat, but I kept reading about emotional support animals and how much they could help people like me. Growing up with dogs, it made sense to look into it.

So I started researching ESA companies online. There are tons of them, and honestly, most of them seemed pretty sketchy. I spent weeks reading reviews, checking out forums, looking into their “doctors” — and the red flags were everywhere. One place had testimonials that were obviously fake, and another had doctors whose licenses I couldn’t verify anywhere. The reviews were either suspiciously perfect or absolutely brutal, with people saying their landlords rejected the letters or they got scammed out of hundreds of dollars. Most of these online services just pump out generic letters without any real assessment.

That’s when I found ESA Doctors. Right from the start, their customer support was completely different — actual humans who knew what they were talking about and could answer my questions about the process. They were upfront about timelines, explained exactly what I’d get, and didn’t make any crazy promises about instant letters.

The therapist they connected me with was amazing, too. She took time to really understand my situation, asked detailed questions about my mental health history, and explained how an ESA might specifically help with my depression symptoms. She was thorough about making sure the letter would have everything my landlord needed. When I submitted it, there were no questions or pushback; it was clearly from a real mental health professional.

Then I got Lucky — this amazing Shih Tzu from the local shelter. He’s been incredible in ways I didn’t even expect. The biggest thing is routine. Because he needs walks, meals, and playtime, I suddenly have structure to my days instead of just drifting through them. He’s also weirdly good at reading my mood. When I start spiraling into anxiety, he’ll bring me his toys or just come sit pressed against my leg like he knows I need that grounding.

After going through all that research, I want to share what I learned. Working with ESA Doctors and getting Lucky has made such a difference in managing my depression. I wish more people knew about these options from the start, so I hope my site helps you in whatever journey you’re on!
